The Oyez Project, housed at the Chicago-Kent College of Law of the Illinois Institute of Technology, will no longer be accessible to the public free of charge, once Jerry Goldman retired. A welcome development is that Oyez will remain free and accessible in the public domain, thanks to an agreement between Cornell’s Legal Information Institute (LII) and Justia.
While U.S. Supreme Court transcripts and oral arguments are available on the Court’s website, audio recordings prior to the 2010 term are only available through the National Archives.

We are prepping the walls for the new paint scheme. This means removing bookcases from the walls in the lobby area. Look what we found! Yes boys and girls, even the walls were orange at some point in time! This time we are going to do it better and get rid of those orange walls for good. The art conservators are here and are carefully removing the Moore paintings from the walls so the painters don't paint around the picture frames! Incidentally, in 1925 Frank Moore became the first Director of the Honolulu Art Museum. He oversaw its construction before resigning in 1927. The Law Library will be closed to the public starting at 6 pm June 9th until 9 am July 1st. We were scheduled to close next week for an asbestos abatement. We decided to take advantage of the closure to start demolition on the lobby area. The lobby was scheduled for renovation in July. Since we moved this part of the project up in the timeline, we will not need to close in July.
The staff has completed boxing our books, taking down shelving and moving the furniture in preparation for our new floor. Thank you for your patience! See you in July! The orange carpet is so resilient that its done in the power carpet cutter! Most of the carpet is up - and folks have been stopping in to pick up their piece for memories sake. In the meantime, the workmen are taking down shelves and moving our books off the floor to make way for the new carpet and tile. |
